Take a short drive to a mountain top vantage point then, after some instruction, strap on the skis or snowshoes and begin the descent back to the ICEHOTEL along a specially marked cross country ski trail, between 3 and 5km. Includes hot drinks and home-made cake fresh baked bread. For novices, if you wish to try cross-country skiing or snow-shoeing within the vicinity of the ICEHOTEL, you may do so daily at 16:45 - adult price £52. Duration 2 hours. Price £94. | SAAB ICE DRIVING |
This is an experience that gives you the opportunity to improve your driving skills and have a great deal of fun at the same time! Head out to a purpose built ice track about 15km from the ICEHOTEL. Under the supervision of a skilled instructor and with the use of a Saab 9-3 Sport Combi, begin with manoeuvring tests on the ice which push the ABS and stabilization systems to the limit. Then head out onto the track and drive around a course that allows you to test the car and your own abilities at speeds up to 100km/hr. Automatic and manual cars are available. Coffee and cakes are served in a Sami-style tent whilst everyone gets a chance to drive, normally two drivers to a vehicle. Finally, out comes the stopwatch to find out who is the day’s rally ace! The ice awaits, engine revving, snow flying from the tyres - this is exhilarating! Maximum 10 participants. Duration 4 hours. Price £297 (as a driver - 2 per car); £104 (as a passenger). | LKAB MINE |
This is a fascinating 2-hour guided tour of the world’s largest ironore mine, just outside of Kiruna. Explore part of the intricate tunnel system and various underground facilities then learn about the plans for future expansion which include moving the town above! Transportation between the ICEHOTEL and Kiruna at additional cost. Duration 3 hours. Price around £21 (adult), £4 (child aged 6-15) - only bookable locally. Departures daily at 15:00.

| ICE SCULPTING |
On site at the ICEHOTEL be guided by an expert, often someone directly involved in the building of the hotel or the decoration within, and learn how to fashion a small block of ice into your very own masterpiece. This is a truly absorbing activity and surprisingly entertaining. As sharp implements are used, the minimum age for participants is 12 years but for anyone above that, this is a highly recommended way to spend some time. And, the best sculptures are presented around the ICEHOTEL complex and at dinner that evening in the ICEHOTEL restaurant. Duration 3 hours. Price £54. Departures daily at 11:00.

| It isn’t surprising that with so much snow and ice readily available, the locals have come up with a number of things to do with it. Fortunately for visitors, they involve a whole lot of fun! For the 2008/9 season, the clever people at the ICEHOTEL are planning some very special activities indeed.
The ICEHOTEL offers a whole variety of optional excursions run by expert local operators which may be booked with us in advance. This is recommended to ensure availability. The new activities here will be particularly weather dependent and therefore you will need to book these at the ICEHOTEL Activity Desk once you have arrived. The prices given here are to use as a guideline only. |

If you have ever wondered what the appeal is for people who push a stone across the ice with someone else ‘sweeping’ its path to the target then now is the perfect time to find out. Novices may book instruction if they wish - for those more familiar with the sport, how about playing a real game complete with adjudicator? The shores of the frozen River Torne will see something new this coming season as an ice rink is planned, just behind the ICEHOTEL. Skates and a helmet may be hired from reception. Approx price per person 100 SEK 1 hour; 275 SEK 3 hours (without instruction) / 1350 SEK for a 2 hour group session of between 1 and 4 people with an instructor - this must be pre-booked at reception a day in advance.

At the time of going to print, these two activities were still in the early planning stage. Imagine the thrill of being propelled by the wind whilst racing across the frozen river or even seeing the ice from below. Instead of paw power, opt for horsepower! Travel by snowmobile through pine forests and over the expanse of the frozen River Torne. Park up outside the ICEHOTEL and then enjoy a guided tour.
